Description

The band of the Coldstream Guards leave Buckingham Palace, the London residence of British sovereigns, to take part in a Trooping of the Colour ceremony. A house was originally built on this site for the First Duke of Buckingham in 1705. Architect John Nash began a new building--Buckingham Palace--in the 1760s. He was displaced before the building was finished by Edward Blore, who completed the building and covered nearly all Nash's work with a new facade, which was later to be replaced by Sir Aston Webb in 1913. The state rooms and great ballroom are of sumptuous splendour and the picture gallery contains many masterpieces. Queen Elizabeth II has opened a small gallery at the palace, where exhibitions of portions of the royal collections are displayed for the public.
