Description
The Clock Tower of the House of Parliament popularly known as 'Big Ben.' The clock with its famous chimes has four dials each almost 23ft (7m) in diameter, with figures 2ft (0.6m) high and hands 14ft (4.3m) and 9ft (2.7m) long. The hours are struck on the great bell of 'Big Ben' cast in 1858 at Whitechapel and named after Sir Benjamin Hall, First Commissioner of Works at the time it was hung.
