Caption to the image of Ronald Reagan's first Close Up event. Text reads: “January 21, 1983
Washington, D.C….President Reagan discussed policies and politics today with a group of high school students from around the country. The half hour meeting was videotaped for a cable television program co-produced by the Cable Satellite Public Affairs Network (C-SPAN) and the Close Up Foundation. During the taping session the President answered questions posed by several of the 67 students from 5 states who are in Washington this week for a government studies program sponsored by the Close Up Foundation. Close Up regularly brings high school aged students to the nation’s capital during the school year for a week-long exposure to government processes. A key feature of the students’ experience here is an opportunity to discuss issues in depth with elected and appointed officials.
Today’s meeting will comprise the latest installment of the C-SPAN/Close Up “Students and Leaders at the White House” series. The President is the most recent of several high-ranking Administration officials who have appeared on the series since its inception last year.
Reagan’s segment will be cablecast to C-SPAN’s 11 million cable television subscriber households at 4:00pm and 10:00pm (EST) today, Friday, January 21.”
