Underlinings/notes: Lamb's annotations are limited to the introduction by Milton Friedman and the 1976 preface. Underlinings: Book true classic, more relevant to US than when first published. 1971 Friedman wrote introduction to German edition. Significant to those who had been in armed services, experiences consequences of collectivism. Free market only mechanism for achieving participatory democracy. Liberal--limited government/free markets. Britain-government had power to assign people to occupations. Contradiction of intellectual class's support of collectivism while challenging capitalism, chanting individualist slogans. Socialism failure, capitalism success. Increase in government spending. Publishing history of book. Upon first publication, Hayek made to feel used abilities on wrong side, 20 years later reread book. Understressed significance of communism in Russia. Notes: "individual freedom," "goodmen v. evil," "world of affairs," "we practice Socialism."
